Top 10 Racquetball Improvement Issues

Top ten issues that inhibit Improvement in racquetball.
1. Following Coach’s instructions-You must go beyond if you want to improve. Take your improvement into your own hands and work on it.
2. Not following Coach’s Instructions-But number one, remember to use the skills being taught by coach.
3. Not hiring or finding a mentor or coach-Worse than one and two!
4. Not training off court-Want to get better at racquetball? Get stronger and faster!
5. Not having a practice plan-To get stronger and faster you need a plan and a schedule.
6. Not practicing skills-In that schedule must be “skill time”.
7. Not writing down things learned-A short pencil is better than a long memory! Get a practice book!
8. Playing too much–Just playing leads to over-use injuries and a slower improvement curve.
9. Not playing enough-Maybe worse than #8!
10. Practicing to win matches, not practicing to improve at racquetball. This is probably the number one thing I see at the top levels of racquetball. Players go into practice wanting to be perfect. I get that but you also have to forgive yourself if you miss a shot. Winning doesn’t mean being perfect. Striving to Be perfect often leads to losing!
Post script: You have to be tough on yourself in practice. In a tournament you have to love yourself and be forgiving. Two different situations. One is “studying for the test” and the other is “the test”!
