“Is it me?” One of my favorite sayings.
I used to play cutthroat a couple of times per week and this one guy violates every etiquette rule of racquetball. So this tip is for all the “rude” players who do not seem to get it. Five rules of practice play etiquette.
1. Do not call double bounces on your opponent. They will call their own. Stopping play and calling a double bounce is not only rude, it assumes your opponent is a cheater.
2. Do not stop play on any little hinder. Just because your opponent crossed your line of vision or was within five yards of you does not give you the right to “over-ref” during a rally.
3. Do not hold up your hand for a hinder, then roll the ball out and assume you have won the rally. You cannot have it both ways. Once you call the hinder, it is a hinder.
4. I get it that you want to win. However, throwing your practice opponent a bone once in awhile is a smart thing to do. It states that you are in it for the workout not just to kill your opponent. If you really want to defeat an opponent enter the tournament and go for it, but practice is sort of a cooperative effort! Remember that and overturn a call against your opponent once in awhile.
5. Hold up instead of drilling your opponent. Do not drill them because they are in your way. Holding up cuts both ways and drilling an opponent in practice usually means revenge is coming so make sure you can hit harder than them! Just kidding….sort of…..
Go get’em (be nice) Tigers!!
