Return of serve 303 level–
Where you line your feet up to return serve can be huge. Mistakes I see:
1. I see folks staggering their feet diagonally in their stance. This puts them at a disadvantage if they are served to the “closed side”(side away from the staggered front foot).
2. Up too close-I see folks lined up closer to center court so they can get to that perfect serve. What this does is open the court up for jams, and z serves. The deeper your position to receive serve, the better you are at covering angles.
3. Back too far-Too deep, with your heels on the back wall, you are allowing a perfect serve to pummel you as you will have difficulty getting up to return serve. A little off the back wall is best.
4. One thing to remember-perfect serves to the forehand side are just that-perfect! We are not covering the perfect serves, but rather the ones that are not perfect. If you defend the perfect serve, you are probably increasing the margin of error in favor of the server!
5. Hunkering down too far–All tensed up and ready for contact football is not an ideal stance-think “cat” not “linebacker”.
6. Read and React is a favorite saying but I like React and Read!
Move early and find the ball–try not to watch the “advertising” which is the movement designed to fool you!
Go get’em tigers!!
