I was talking about excellence in sports last night with a friend.
There is so much talent on the Women’s and Men’s pro tours! These athletes possess speed, strength, and outright athleticism. What separates them apart from the general population is their willingness to go for it.
The highest level of competition in the world means more losses for people used to winning in their local and state competitions. Therefore putting yourself on display for the public to adore if you win is tricky. Of course the upside is success on that stage brings to accolades. The downside of that is when you lose folks usually avoid you like the plague. Worse yet, the winner who just defeated you is jumping up and down and texting Mom and Dad, while you are alone in a corner.
Cheer up, young woman or man! You are lucky to be competing at that level. How many folks would love just to be able to play racquetball, much less at the level you perform at? How many people put it all on the line in front of the crowd?
Years from now the losses will melt away and you will remember the great comebacks and wins of your career. You may remember the crushing losses also-at least some of them! It is not the “catch” that defines you, it is the “hunt”!
Still, losing does suck! Go get’em Tigers!!
