Questions questions questions–this one yesterday!
Dear Coach Dub,
I’ve noticed over the past year that I’m having problems maintaining momentum during a game, particularly in the middle of games, when I get close to 10 in a game to 15. I can’t figure out what is going on. I feel like my momentum stalls, and my quality of play will also sometimes drop.
Have you dealt with this issue before? How do you break yourself out of a mid-game slump?
Signed
Slumping in Syossett
Dear Slumpster,
I used to break the game into three games to five. Once I got to five win or lose I was 0-0 and on to a new game. This kept me from relaxing if I got ahead or pressing mentally if I was behind. I always tried to stay 0-0 in my mind on pressure points.
On another note-where are they serving you? At mid game where do the serves go? That is your weakness-when you play tournaments in one area everyone knows your game and they are eager to share that knowledge with others behind the scenes.
If it is a particular serve or shot selection on your part it could be a technique issue and not a mental issue!
My closing advice is to take two videos and call me in the morning for analysis!
