The fans of racquetball are great for the game. No matter what player they root for, they add energy to a tournament. Now here is a little tip of going beyond the fan thing and thinking like a playa, and a Coach. First , watch the serves closely. What side of the court gets the most serves? That is a perceived weaker side by the server!
Secondly, Watch the returns closely; same thing ! The players will attempt to find the weaker area.
Next, forget the ball and look at the feet. The more the feet move, the better the footwork (usually) and thus, the better the player is.
Watch the facial expressions of your favorite athlete. Focused? Not focused? Mad? Laid back? Does this serve them well or does the emotion take away from their game?
This might surprise you but precise shot selection has a different meaning at the pro level. At the amateur level the open court is where the ball should go but at the pro level the open court may not be where it appears to be. Why? The speed of professionals. Therefore a player may have to hit to the closed side, anticipating the movement of said speed demon to the open side!
Now you are engaging in Coach-think, not fan-think!
