Use the service box! Use all of the box! Today’s game consists of serve and how well you can return. To be effective in serving you have to move around the service box. Serving from one position can doom you. Put it another way. How many times have you been serving and the opponent is helpless for about ten points. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the opponent not only starts returning serve, but turns the entire match around and the once invincible serve is now useless.
There is a way of stopping that from happening.
Pick a serve, any serve. Okay let’s use the staple drive serve left to a right hander. Serve from the middle. Serve from the right of middle. Serve to the left of middle. Then move back to middle and serve right. Then lob left. then repeat the process described above.
I used to script not only serves but positions of serves on a wristband to keep an opponent off balance.
Then, I began to “sense” what would work. There is a big difference between scripting serves and sensing serves. How can I explain sensing serves?
Start by looking at zones. Low, medium and high zones can be attacked with serves. No player is as effective in all zones. Sense the serves and “feel” the game
