Little things can make a big difference. Here is one. Everybody knows (well almost) that to hit a good shot on both sides of the court you should change your grip. This gives you a longer injury-free career. What everybody may not know is the angle of the wrist with the arm is just as important.
A few years ago one of my Pro athletes came to me and told my junior player had the wrong grip on his backhand. I knew that was not the case as I had taught him from day one. So I watched junior play and guess what was going on? He had been playing lacrosse all summer and therefore was holding his racquet like a lacrosse stick with the wrist cocked so he could shoot and pass better. This extreme wrist thing made it look as if he had the wrong grip. Got the wrist back a quarter turn, and he began hitting good backhands again. This is an example of how one little thing can cause a chain reaction in your game!
Here’s another “Everyone Knows that..” panel courts and concrete courts are much different. Throw in a slower or faster ball and the differences are even bigger. So my panel court guy moves to concrete courts and the result is my player is susceptible to the pass. Why? Panel court Center court positioning is further forward than concrete due to the speed of the ball and walls!
Little things make big differences and the pros know that….or most of them do.
Go get’em tigers!!
