In football the Bill Parcel’s coaching tree is impressive. Bill Belichick is atop this tree but so are Tom Coughlin and other great coaches. In racquetball The Dave and Gregg Peck Coaching tree is very impressive.
Forget the thousands of national titles in age divisions, Men and Women Pros, and World championships that his coaching spawned and just focus on the Men and women’s pro tours. By my humble count and I must admit I am not Todd Boss, so fill in blanks I missed at any time but just counting the mechanics part and coaching influence of Dave Peck and his brother Gregg (RIP); I count on the Men’s side 21 annual Professional titles with Kane, Cliff, Dave, and Drew Katchtik. Throw in Rhonda Rajsich and you have 26 pro #1 titles end of year. Mike Guidry is part of that tree and had several doubles titles as well as some tour wins. Since I am a member of that coaching tree, my athletes I coached have accounted for 17 of those 24 year end number one titles! (of course Kane sort of skews that number!) One other side note that is often missed by people. I consulted with Dave a little back in the day (and still do) and let me be clear, I never coached him but often talked to him, coached his juniors and suggested strategies. Drew, I had the pleasure of coaching in the Spring of 1991 and in the Pan Ams in 1999. Cliff was a junior player in the Dave Peck Junior camp and coached by Dave. Oh and number one finishes by Sudsy Monchik and Jason Maninno are indirectly connected to the Peck tree by virtue of attendance to the Dave Peck camps although both were not directly coached by Dave or myself during their careers and Players like Tim Doyle attended those camps also. Now you can even take it further. All the camps, lessons, athletes and clinics since 1981 I have done contained the “sauce” that Peck disciples know.
Why are the Peck athletes successful? Most of it is secret sauce that other players do not have access to. But if you take a look at the folks we work with, they all improve and improve rapidly. That is all we can do, coach them up and help them improve. I am a proud coach to be part of this coaching family of players and coaches!
