Here is a lesson we can all learn, myself included! Condescending attitudes tick me off. When a coach starts a sentence with “These players are all……” I brace myself. I know what is coming. The super-coach is blaming his or her athletes for not winning or something going wrong. Administrators and Players, you are not exempt either.
Where am I going with this? When you lump everyone into a category to make yourself feel better, you have just put yourself into a box of close-minded thinking.
“These people are morons. This group is a bunch of idiots,” and so on. This mindset forecasts behavior and is a preset for all action and inaction.
This also lends itself to failure. “Racquetball is dying. Racquetball organization X is horrible by organization Y is wonderful.” These beliefs are wrong but self-perpetuating! If I believe it I will find reasons to make it true.
Lack of respect for others is a big problem with people in a single opponent in the little box of racquetball action. (I guess it can be argued outside that box also)
Try thinking like others and for better or worse do not lump them into a group.
It is human nature to cross this line but if you start with respect for other players, I believe you will find the good in people.
