Success-It’s Not Money!

So I stumbled across at tv series titled “Objectified” which features interviews with celebrities in different fields of work. From Martha Stewart to Steven Tyler to Willie Nelson the shows do not disappoint. One interview that held my interest was with Mark Cuban, the billionaire from Dallas.
During the interview he was asked if he had any advice for young people coming into the market place. Mark had three rules for success.
1. There are no shortcuts
2. control is effort
3. define success -it’s not money
Number one is self-explanatory. I lose respect for self-proclaimed experts who think they are fooling everyone as they pontificate. A true expert knows they great pretenders, and not really contenders! Number two is every insightful. Attempting to control everything around you can be counter-productive. I see this in people’s games and I went through it when I played. Too much effort spent trying to control draws, refs, opponents, etc. is wasted energy. Number 3 can be translated to anyone’s competitive drive. Success may not be what you think it is. When you get to the end of the trail and look behind you, you will find you may remember a few championship matches, but mostly you will remember the grind and what it taught you about yourself! Success is the hunt, not necessarily the “catch”!
Onward and upward!
Go get’em tigers!!!
