Recently I saw an interview with an NFL position coach. The reporter asked that coach for their favorite saying. The coach’s reply?
“Be where your feet are!”
That resonated with me. Here is an extra message to send to your feet!
Don’t worry, be happy!
While many coaches, myself included, use speed ladders and other devices for footwork improvement, nothing beats good old on the court functional training. Try this; give yourself a setup and get your feet “happy”! Take little adjustment steps to make sure your body is in the correct position to strike the ball with a forehand or backhand. The lower level the player, the less the feet move. Instead of “leaning” toward the ball or lunging toward the ball, move with smaller steps to the ball.
What the coach meant(translating from football to racquetball) when he said be where your feet are was your feet should take your body to the ball, and they should not stop and you should not “lean” to the ball!
Want to be a superstar?
Be where your feet are!
