So I get my video sent to me by my friend. I asked him to shoot some video of one of my favorite junior players. I get a clip of the floor, two opponents in a doubles match, and not one swing for my junior player.
When you are shooting video of a player-keep the camera on that player. Set up right or left of center so bodies do not block vision. I am looking for the athlete’s movement and positioning as well as their execution of shot.
Once I have that I can help the athlete.
I only need 5-7 minutes of video. That should give me enough footage to analyze action. Running the camera in 5 second rallies won’t work.
Running the camera for a full game will blow up my wifi when I try to download and analyze. I will have to break the video up. Also, I only need a few minutes to spot issues. A full game those issues will occur over and over–pointing them out and giving a recipe for fixing the errors is what I do.
What am I looking at in Video? Positioning, shot selection, and some little things that make up most analysis videos. Those things are what I call the “what” of racquetball. What shot to hit what position to be in etc.
Not coached by mainstream so much is the most important is the “how”. How you hit the ball is crucial in the modern game of racquetball at all levels. Why? As I have said before when people ask:
1. Will I be able to hit the ball harder? Yes, but not the main reason.
2. Will I be able to hit the ball hard with less effort? Yes, but not the main reason.
3. Will I be able to keep the ball out of center court? Yes, but not the main reason.
4. Will I be able to play more pain free than ever and avoid wear and tear on elbows and shoulders? Yes! That is the main reason!!!
More secret sauce being cooked up as we speak!!
