Here is how to better your racquetball skills.
Below is based on personal experience. Your experience might be different as all players bring different stories with their histories.
Once upon a time a long time ago, 8 of the top 16 players in the North East lived in Rochester, NY. We had 5 players who won open tournaments and we all played each other every week. Yours truly was one of those players but it was almost impossible for any of us to dominate in practice. Then I moved downstate.
I had no players in my new club but I had an outstanding fitness resource, personal trainers who were free for me. Since I had no competition to speak of I would win all the time. Also I had to work on my skills and play in tournaments for my competition. Eventually more people moved into my area and I had more local competition plus I built a few players to compete with through my coaching skills.
I discovered playing all out against the best competition day in and day out is great up to a certain point. Then you must address your weaknesses.
What are your weaknesses you may ask?
Where are they serving you? What side of the court are they playing you? What serves are they giving you? The answers to those questions are your weaknesses.
Back to practice; you must do an honest assessment of your game and your weakest areas and then get to work.
Winning builds confidence. Expect to win and great things happen. Work harder in practice so the tournaments are a vacation. If the tournament is harder than practice you are in trouble!
So, the formula for me was to play players at my level and above maybe once per week if that. Play others a little below your level of play to work on skills. Practice skills in solo sessions. Work hard physically to build a strong body to compete with. Expect to win.
Go get’em Tigers!
