Building blocks-“Coach I want to go train with another coach-any advice?”
Yes-Don’t do it! hahaha–seriously–forget me for a moment and think of any coach. We all have different ways of looking at the game. Leaving one coach for another can ruin your game I have a 48 year proven record of excellence. I have tried to count the champions in each decade that I coached but I lose count. The 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, etc and each year I learn and build.
Newbie coaches on the scene are where I was years ago. Each lesson is building on the next. When you head to another coach and get taught, they will unwittingly dismantle almost everything I have done. There are only a few I know who will not. Here is a specific example. I have a way of teaching the drive serve that demands certain building blocks of bio-mechanical movement. When someone is taught by another coach who does not know these cues, the athlete can come back to me with a worse serve.
Worse than poor execution is injury-Remember, that is the number one reason of using correct technique!
Now, back to using other coaches. Yes, for competition and yes for the different ways of looking at the game. No for exact technique and movement and put a filter into your head; use what is good and throw out the bad. If you are confused as the difference, come back and let me know. We’ll talk about it!
