Athletes-listen up! I have worked hard to get out in front on the latest science and technology. I have formidable competitors in the coaching market and they are fine coaches. But almost all of them have followed my example of coaching up billboard athletes. What is a billboard athlete? A billboard athlete is an athlete that wins and plays the way you coach. That athlete will be an example for others to follow. The winning part all of the competitors get. They have captured some fine players to work with.
The mechanics and footwork part has been lost in that process. I work hard to get my athletes hitting the ball in a way that is easy on their arms and shoulders. Am I always successful? Of course not, but the effort I assure you is there. While we are on this subject, I just had a parent tell me they had no idea what I could do and how different I was than the other coaches. That is gratifying to hear but also frustrating. I see others working with a few athletes that I would love to work with. I say “few” because most athletes do not have the work ethic it takes to get to the top. The few that do are the most fun to work with.
So f you are a player, and I watch your matches, and your are not succeeding remember this. Some coaches need you, but you need a coach. That coach should not need you more than you need them! Oh, and one more thing. I have never asked an athlete if I can coach them. They have all come to me. Of that I am proud and you would not believe some of the big names I have turned down because of conflict of interest!
Thomas Carter and Kane Waselenchuk are two I share students with at times and work with. I also work with Rhonda Rajsich, who is highly recommended.
Any of those people I have total confidence in the way they teach. Why in the world would I promote competition to my coaching? Simply because it is good for the game. Not all coaches are equal so it is important to get the one who you feel comfortable working with.
Go get coached, tigers!!
