Are you a recreational player or a tournament player? Recreational racquetball is the fuel that drives our businesses. Let me be more precise in explanation of a recreational player. I define a recreational player as someone who does not practice solo or workout to be a better player, but plays racquetball for recreation.
These days I am a recreational player (for the record). Playing in the clubs with a group of folks or in a league is a great way of maintaining fitness and mental sanity while working a regular 40 hours and much more work week!
Tournament racquetball means you have stepped up your game and want to improve. Here’s the funny thing. I see many tournament players who are really more recreational players. They enter a skill division, hang out in that skill division, and do not want to improve. Now I know recreational players want to improve too but by definition they do not work on their craft.
Nothing wrong with that at all if you can separate the performance level from the outcome of the match. If you are all red faced and busting racquets after a loss–you really are not a recreational player. You may need to think about practicing! Two equal athletes, and one has practiced and worked on their craft and other has not; guess who wins? Now about the practicing player; make sure you are practicing correctly!!!!
