Cure for Boring Practices

How do you get out of solo practice boring routines? I hated practice. I hated losing even more.
How can you get better without the solo practice?
Some time ago two of my very good players were hitting fast and furious on court two. I asked them what they were doing.
Their response, “Playing”.
My response, “Yes, but what are you working on?”
The responses?
Player A said splats and wide angles, while Player B stated, backhand down the lines and wide angle passes. Now there are two players who have worked with me and know better than to just be trying to beat each other up for ego massaging!
We can all learn from these guys. When you play, work on something, do not just play. I play this young guy who blows me off the court with drive serves. Then I play a guy who lobs me and tries to out control me. Which player will be better in the long run? The one working on control is playing me at my strength in practice. In a tournament all bets are off and “bring it” is the name of the game. In practice, not so much if you want to bet better! Get a few objectives, find an opponent, and go to work!
Oh, and remember, what do you hate more? Losing or practice? Pick one!
