So I get this long video of how tennis champion Carlos Alcaraz can hit the ball harder than anyone. It has to do with his technique. One of my eager young charges sent it to me. The reason he sent it to me is the narrator sounded a lot like me when explaining the way Carlos his his topspin forehand.
From the ground up the footwork is the same as racquetball and why not? They are racquet sports. Of course the technique itself is very different when you hit a ball on the rise (tennis) as opposed to hitting a ball down (racquetball. Amazingly the angles of the forearm and timing of use of legs and torso are pretty much the same in both sports.
So why can’t everyone hit the ball in tennis like Alcaraz? It is the same reason they can’t hit the ball like Kane in our sport.
Proper technique must be practiced from an early age and attention must be paid to technique. Once a player hits top levels practice tends to change from technique practice to game style execution of shots. My advice? Go back to where you started! Drop and hit to set up and hit to execution of shots in controlled game situations. Too many good players skip the process steps to the last step; execution of shots!
Go get’em tigers….with correct technique of course!!
