How to get better faster!!
1-Maximize practice time–laughing and scratching is what we used to call wasting time–or in football the “mill drill” where you mill around like a herd of cattle and yap instead of working on your skills.
2.Have a plan-What are you going to work on? Then work on it!
3-leave your comfort zone-I know you want to hit forehands, not backhand ceiling balls–or vice versa–but you have to work on your weak area, not your strongest area. The ball will find that unhappy place in crucial match points!
4. Train harder than you would have to work in a match. “To be unconcerned about conditioning in a match, you must be concerned about it in practice.”
5. Get an annoying coach who will not let you mess up in practice.
6. Buy that annoying coach dinner! That coach is valuable.
7. Measure your practice. How many perfect shots can you hit out of ten? Write it down.
8. Speaking of in #7–journal your practice!
9. Video your practice so you can check your progress. No check on progress; no progress!
10. Often I am doing the same lesson over and over month after month. Why? Violation of #1-#9 above!
Do not put coaches in that movie, GroundHog Day! Fixit!
