Leaning syndrome is a term I have coined after watching many players throughout my video reading. LS symptoms include, weak drive serves, poor footwork, and front wall side wall shots into center court. Quite simply LS occurs when the player has all their weight on the front foot and no weight on the back foot. This results in an all or nothing shot because if the shot is not great the footwork keeps the player from getting to the next shot. The cure for LS? Several-but here are a few of my favorites.
Baseball pitchers put their knee on a chair and throw. Why can’t racquetball players at least practice forehand and backhand shadow swings like that?
Knees drill-another favorite of quarterbacks and baseball pitchers is to throw on their knees. This works great for racquetball because it also flattens out the swing.
I do like stationary drop and hit.(no movement) Some teaching pros love to give their students a step to hit their forehand and backhand. Not me! I feel the step encourages LS!
These three will help defeat LS and give your serve and shots a little “giddy-up” also!
