Never Mistake Activity for Achievment!

“Never mistake activity for achievement” John Wooden
So I was talking to a former legend of the game who performed at the highest level. I am so happy he is getting involved in racquetball again but we discussed sport specificity.
There is a fine line between working hard and working too hard. I have shared this before on this forum and I will share it again. 95% of all athletes at the elite level are over-trained. A fit athlete is wonderful but we are not competing in cross-fit or body building.
I think trainers, who do not know racquetball, but do know training, lose sight of this.
Here is another quote by national champion Charlie Brumfield, “To get better at Racquetball you have to play racquetball!”
He is not the first champion nor last to state that simple fact!
It’s not a cross fit competition or a cross country race. It is not a power lifting competition. It is racquetball!
The trick is not to play racquetball hard every day but to incorporate flexibility, strength, and skills within a schedule to improve at racquetball. Then you can hit six days a week but in a training situation, rather than all out kill yourself racquetball!!
