In my coaching life I often go from coaching online to working with athletes in person. So when it is “now I get to coach’em up in person ” here is what usually occurs.
1. A few mechanical glitches and deficiencies.
2. Fast feet but poor footwork
3. #1 and #2 will lead to poor shot selection.
Now #1,2, and 3 will all lead me to #4
4. They probably have been told their form is perfect!
This is a hard pill to swallow and many athletes have trouble with it. I remember more than one athlete driven to tears when I delivered the news. But to most of my athlete’s credit, they sucked it up, and got to work on improving.
That’s what champions do.
A few never adapted.
Perfect psychological response. Fight or flight!
Now what can you do to improve?
1. Video tape yourself and compare how you move to a player your size, age, and at the top levels.
2. Then get to work on improving.
3. If one and two above are not working?? Well, that’s where I come in.
Good luck and get after it!!
Onward and upward!!
