Above: These athletes were remotely coached by me during Junior World Competition last year. sd
Remote coaching-how does it work? To do a good job a coach has to answer this question for the athlete, “How do I improve?”
Dear Athlete,
First-identify the problem–
here is why (fill in the blank here) is not working. examples: forehand, backhand, footwork, serve, positioning, shot selection-usually a combination of at least two of these.
Second-identify the solution(s) -here is how you improve your …forehand, backhand, footwork, serve, positioning, shot selection-usually a combination of at least two of these-to do that I have to show athletes doing the skill correctly and ideally the drills to improve those skills.
Example-poor backhand problem-Solution-basic drop and hit skills followed by movement skills, followed by setup and hit drills followed by play. Building a step by step “fix” works best.
Last-help the athlete realize this is not a quick fix. This works when day in and day out attention to the skill improvement is done and made a life time habit. That is why I sell monthly coaching. I have found that lessons work but long term lessons work best. That is also why we set the Elite Racquetball Camp up with coaching education included. (Elite Camp 2022 coming July 28 to August 1. Website is up on R2 Sports)
This coach has several athletes I have never been on the court with. All have improved two levels in six months. I have two beginners who have never played before and began in October. Both are now C players and working to B. Two A to Elite and pro to higher-ranked Pro! You get the picture!
Don’t know how to identify the problem with your game? Where do they serve you? That’s the place you need to work on!
Go get’em Tigers!!
