Top ten excuses presented to me by athletes–oh and I may have used a few these in my playing days!

10. The courts were horrible (duh, did the opponent play on the same court?)

9. The floors were (fill in the blank) slippery, uneven, darkly colored, all white, cement…and see above comment!

8. My opponent psyched me out. (no, you lost concentration-your fault, not your opponent’s)

7. I did not train hard enough for the tournament.

6. I over-trained for the tournament.

5. The ball was too slow.

4. The ball was too fast.

3. My opponent cheated me at (fill in the blank-game point, match point, or some other crucial point)

2. I was using a new racquet I had never used. (As Nancy Kerrigan famously said, “Why?”)

1. The referee shafted me, it was her or his fault.

These are only ten and I am sure you all have others you have heard. Come on now, empty out that excuse bag!
