Timing is everything according to actors and comedians. The same is true of racquetball. Watching some opportunities passed up in many matches. Here is an example. The score is 11-11 and we are in a pro match or an amateur, game one.

Makes no difference as this is a PP situation(pressure point). Ref calls the score and the athlete serves-that is scenario one–Ref calls the score, athlete checks the wall, takes her or his time, and after what seems an agonizingly long ten seconds, puts the ball in play; scenario 2.

Which situation to you think gives the server the best chance to win the rally? Change up the timing of the serve and you have a better chance. The same goes with the return. You have ten seconds after the score is called if you want to take it. Changing tempo on serve and return gives you a better chance of focus on the ensuing rally. Keep working the timing from fast (hurry hurry quick serve) to slow (take ten seconds between serves) and it will result in an off balance opponent.

Don’t believe me? Try it in practice and report back to let us know how it worked?
