Timing can mean the difference between winning and losing. Some examples:
1. Junior player gets ball and serves. No timing. So junior is actually just putting the ball in play, not serving.
2. Junior takes time, and thinks. Junior puts ball in play after about 8 seconds. Junior is serving, not putting the ball in play.
3. Close match; second serve and athlete lobs the ball. No timing. Same scenario and athlete takes time, breathes deep, looks at target on front wall, and hits a lob. Athlete serving, not putting the ball in play.
4. Pause for effect on lobs. Taking time will make the serves more effective.
5. Fast-break racquetball-if the opponent is not stopping you and you are scoring on drive serves. Speed up tempo makes you more effective!
6. Opponents out of shape or carrying extra weight. Take full ten seconds between serves and return of serve. Wears out the out of shape players.
With more good timing, gold medals you’ll be mining!
