The game of Doubles is a lot of fun. A few weeks ago I got into a doubles game with a few friends and I played with a partner i did not know. This player was all into racquetball and loved the game. This athlete possessed some amazing athletic ability. This athlete also possessed some weird stroke mechanics on both sides.

This young athlete has this old man, age whatever, with two hip replacements, and on all sorts of senior meds, and a certificate of longstanding in the AARP, as a partner but dang if I did not return serve better on the backhand side than the young awesome athlete!
Why? Only because I did not shoot every ball. When the serve came left they did not know if the return was going up to the ceiling, cross court, down the line or pinch! The variety of serve return is what makes a doubles player; not the out and out ability to kill the ball. (Well, I just re-read that last sentence-to be fair if you can kill almost every ball you do not have to worry about shot selection.

Now the reason I do not call myself a great doubles player? The lack of that out and out ability to kill the ball!
All great doubles players have that and that puts me Not in that category! Want to be in that category? Have all the shots and the ability to shoot the rock!
