(Editor’s note: Recently Lou Holtz retired from public speaking at age 88. Here are some of his gems!)
Ability is what you are capable of doing.
Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it!
I Love Lou Holtz quotes! For those who do not know Lou Holtz was a football coach whose specialty was taking losing football programs and turning them around. He is a dynamic public speaker these days.
The above quote has been so relevant to my experience as a coach. I cannot tell you how many athletes have come to me with so much talent. Many have had world class ability.
Very few have been motivated to work hard.
Of those that had talent and were motivated, some had the wrong attitude-they loved the comfort zone.
Can an athlete win without all three? Of course but sooner or later it will catch up to that player in ways they least expect!
Here’s another one!
The two most Important days in your life are the day you’re born and the day you learn your life’s purpose!
And the third one I like is
“Do what’s right. Do the best you can and show people you care”
I get fired up listening to him and he was a great motivator of young athletes as well as in the corporate world!
Oh by the way-he was the guy who put this sign up in the Notre Dame locker room!
