A while back I traveled to a secret location to work with some open players and pro athletes. It was not work and it was a blast but as I sat in the airport waiting for my flight out of Dodge I realized:

1. I had spent 7 hours Friday and 4 hours Saturday one on one, and one on two or three coaching basics at times, and specific issues with others.

2. The athletes were amazing in ability, attitude, and execution.

3. The athletes were improving and that is why I flew out there; I wanted to keep it that way!

4. One thing became clear about the workout routines of all; specifics of training boils down to shot-making and shot-making boils down to spending time at the office; namely the court.

5. Too much time training off-court leads to poor performance on the court!

Back home and plenty of sleep later the ole ball coach is ready to go work another week with 16 athletes of varying playing levels!
What can you learn from all of this?

Practice to win means make the shots! Pro basketball and pro tennis for example features athletes that shoot thousands of shots in practice. They do scrimmage but after all of it, under pressure, they make their shots. Most of us are not pros but we can still practice the shots!
