Last year I had a student come in to work with me who has been doing video training with me for five months. Today was our first time on the court. We breezed through forehand, backhand, ceiling balls and serve in just under 3 hours. Usually this would take twice as long if this was a first lesson with no video.
Why so fast? All of the video coaching with practice, made the session speed by. Biggest issue?
Same one as always–under-use of lower body and over-use of upper body!
Because of the hard work of the said athlete and their attention to detail, we were able to get a lot done in a short amount of time.
Tomorrow we will slather the secret sauce of movement skills with racquet drills. This man was a low B player and is now A/Elite level due to coaching and most important-the hard work it takes after receiving the knowledge!
Remote Video coaching works IF….and there are big ifs…you are being taught correctly and you are practicing!
Video coaching really works when the athlete really works!!
